What's That?

So it's been raining for the past...couple of days. Sunday was relatively gloomy, but very warm. Sunday night it started to rain. And it didn't stop until about, oh...TODAY. It was insane. The seas got rough, and they had to shut down one lane of our (two-lane) Bayfront highway. The waves crashed so hard against the beach that it pushed some rocks up on shore.

It's not as bad as a few months ago, I think. The sea was so rough that it actually shoved the beach backward. The rocks and sand that marked the boundary between highway and beach got pushed OVER the highway and into the play fields on the other side. There are chainlink fences surrounding the playfields, and the force of the waves on the rocks on the fences bent them. It also changed the fences from a nice grey to a very dirty brown.

When it rains here, and rains hard, the rivers and oceans get brown. Mostly because of the cane fields. Or what used to be cane fields. Whatever kind of fields they are now.

Tomorrow...Yahoo! Weather says it'll be rainy. GREAT!

When I woke up on Monday morning, I found myself wondering if our library would get flooded like Manoa's. But then, I can't really see that happening. Although I'm sure they couldn't see it happening either.

There are about 50 million books and 100 billion DVDs that have to be checked in as soon as the system comes back online. It sucks. We have to do everything manually, and there have been times where people have checked out 15 books at a time. Now, normally this wouldn't be a problem. BUT since we're doing it all manually, we have to write down:
  1. The name of the patron.
  2. Their barcode.
  3. The barcode of the book they're borrowing.
  4. The call number.
  5. The due date of the book. (Which is different, depending on if the person is an undergraduate, a graduate or faculty/staff member; or if they're checking out A/V materials.)

And we have to do that for EACH book. Well, numbers 3-5 anyway. ^_^ It suuuuuuuucks but it gives me a chance to exericse my handwriting! (Since I haven't been going to any classes where I actually take notes...heh.)

But there are people with much worse jobs out there, so I'm grateful my life is so mundane and boring.

Yes. So grateful.
